Indian film actress Asin Thottumkal appears mainly in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil films. She also appeared in Malayalam movies. She received Kalaimamani award for her contribution in the literature and arts.

Asin made her debut in 2001 in the film Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka .It was a Malayalam film directed by Sathyan Anthikkad. Her first commercial success came with a Telugu film named Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi. The film was released in 2003 and earned her a Filmfare award for best Telugu actress. Her huge success in Tamil film industry came with the film M. Kumaran S/O Mahalakshmi in 2004. Asin was much acclaimed for her acting in this film and also received a Filmfare award for best Tamil actress for the third Tamil film Ghajni. The film was released in 2005. She played the lead roles in many films and almost all of them went successful. Her performance was most notable in a thriller film Varalaru in 2006. She also appeared in another thriller film named Pokkiri in 2007. Asin acted opposite Kamal Haasan in the blockbuster film Dasavathaaram in 2008. Such continuous successful films made her an established actress in the Tamil film industry. The film Ghajni in which Asin did the lead role was a huge commercial success, too. It earned her many Awards and accolades.
