Neelo was the amazing film heroine who was a successful second generation film heroine. She was among the top dancers in the Urdu and Punjabi films history. In the early years of her career Neelo played the roles of supporting actors and did her job very well. It was in the first half of 1960s that she started playing the lead roles and eventually became the top heroine. She did her first film in 1956 which was Sabira. A year earlier, she appeared in a scene in Hollywood film Bhwani Junction. She was rejected by Shabab Keranvi when Neelo approached her for acting in his films and he said that this girl could never be a film actress. But Neelo proved herself.

Neelo’s  real name was Cynthia Alexander, a Christian by birth. But after getting married to Riaz Shahid she converted to Islam. In 1965 during Ayub’s regime she was called to perform a live dance to which she refused. For this she was harassed and threatened. Neelo even tried to commit suicide.  Her son is the super star Shaan. She did song items in more than 20 films which include Sabira, Ankh ka nasha, Phooley Khan, Darbar, Anjam, Sehti, Saat Lakh, Jane Bahar, Shaikh chilli, Kacha kalian, Naya dour, Zehr-e-ishq, Nai larki, Mumtaz, Yaar beli, Lalkar, Sola aaney, and Akhri Nishan.
