Ever since the trend of making independent films has picked up, many new female faces have been introduced in the Pakistani film industry. These newcomers in the film industry are already respected names in Pakistani dramas. Some actresses who have impressed the audience on silver screen are as follows
Humaima Malick became a part of the glamour world from a very young age. She started off as a model and later walked the ramp for Deepak Perwani at the age of fourteen. A designer’s dream, she later became a TV actress but her acting talents were properly showcased in Shoaib Mansoor’s film Bol. The film established Humaima as a serious actress and not just a glamorous face. She was also the leading lady opposite Emran Hashmi in the Indian film Raja Natwarlal. Humaima is currently busy with films both in Pakistan and India and her Pakistani films include Dekh Magar Pyar Sey and Mission Allahu Akbar.
Mahira Khan’s first appearance on the big screen was from the movie Bol in which she played a short but important role. Her second movie Bin Roye launched her as a full fledge film actress as she played a complex role of a sweet girl who later turns bitter and then remorseful because of the events in her life. Mahira played her role to perfection and was applauded for it; in fact the movie Bin Roye which mostly revolves around Mahira has done record business at the box office. Mahira Khan will be appearing in a lead role opposite Shahrukh Khan in the movie Raees.
Armeena Raana Khan
Film Bin Roye featured another new and pretty face, Armeena Raana Khan. Although Armeena’s role was short and overshadowed by Mahira’s, she managed to shine through. She will definitely prove to be a good addition to the Pakistani film industry.
Pakistani film industry should be grateful to independent films for introducing talented and educated actresses like Aamina Sheikh whose acting skills have been recognized internationally as well. Aamina has played powerful roles in movies like Josh and Lamha/Seedlings, she also won the Best Actress Award for playing the bereaved mother in Lamha at the International Film Festival New York. Aamina also acted opposite Shan in O21, the first spy thriller movie of Pakistan.
