Highlights of Screen Actors Guild Awards

 

Screen Actors Guild Award is one of the industry’s most valued honors today. It is the celebration of praising and honoring to the stupendous performances of television and film industries. The awards are presented by the Screen Actor Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.

It was the year of 1995, when the glimpses of Screen Actors Guild Awards (also known as a SAG Awards) were brought to the world. The awards are about to speak well of the year’s best triumphs in acting in five different categories for movies and eight different categories for television. The 4200 aimlessly selected members of the union of Screen Actor Guild Awards select the nominees every year while more than 120, 000 memberships are offered for choosing the winners with their votes.

The first Screen Actors Guild Awards show was lived on February 25, 1995 from Universal studios where critics and general public praised it for its style, simplicity and real warmth. Later the second Screen Actors Guild Award was on aired from Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, whereas subsequent awards ceremonies have been taken place at the venue of Shrine Exposition Center, Los Angeles, CA, USA. Earlier only TNT on aired the awards show for the general public for many years but now they can be viewed on TBS as well.

The sculpture presented as Screen Actor Guild Award reveals an uncovered male body taking a mask of humor and tragedy together, is called “The Actor”. The trophy is 16 inches tall and weighs over 12 pounds. The American Fine Arts Foundry produces the statue, casting in solid bronze. The trophy indeed rejoices the celebration that is only meant to laud the finest achievements made every year.

The uniqueness of the Screen Actor Guild Awards is to equally focusing on individual acts and on the work of the whole group of a tragedy and comedy sequences, along with the members of a motion movie. These honors are essential to the strength of the Screen Actors Guild Awards as they make the world familiar with what all performances make out. Film and television stunt ensembles are also lauded for their exceptional presentations. The SAG Awards announce these tributes from the event’s red carpet in TNT and TBS’ pre-show webcasts.

Like every year, the celebration of Screen Actor Guild Awards 2013 was held at Shrine Exposition Center, Los Angeles, California, USA on Sunday, January 27, 2013. TNT and TBS on aired the event simultaneously for their viewers.

The night of the Screen Actor Guild Awards 2013 was a splendid package of film and television celebrities. Each of them, at the welcoming red carpet experienced countless clicks of cameras and met countless people who were there to have marvelous snaps of their favorites and off course, to tribute their talent and extraordinary performances. As a trend, awards were given for the best performances in five different categories for movies and eight different categories for television. If we distinguish the winning spots, both television and film seemed conquering with complete shine while the struggle was seen truly intense.

Ben Affleck was the star of the 19th annual Screen Actor Guild Awards where his ‘Argo’ received the Outstanding Ensemble in a Motion Picture award. Daniel Day-Lewis won the trophy for Outstanding Male Actor in a Leading Role for his remarkable performance in ‘Lincoln’ while Jennifer Lawrence was the winner of the Outstanding Female Actor in a Leading Role for her performance in ‘Silver Linings Playbook’. Tommy Lee Jones was prized for Outstanding Male Actor in a Supporting Role for his movie ‘Lincoln’ whereas Anne Hathaway was declared the Outstanding Female Actor in a Supporting Role for ‘Les Miserables’.

The Life Time Achievement Award is one of the best parts of the Screen Actors Guild Awards. The honor is given to the performer who cultivates the highest levels of the talent and performance in the Guild’s membership. This year Dick Van Dyke was awarded for Life Achievement Award for achieving the same.

Let’s move to the winners of Screen Actor Guild Awards on television side, there is no difference as we see the best of the television being winners like every year. Alec Baldwin captured the award of Outstanding Male Actor in a Lead Role for ‘30 Rock’. Tina Fey was the winner of Outstanding Female Actor in a Lead Role for ‘30 Rock’.

‘Modern Family’ was declared the conqueror for the award of Outstanding Ensemble in a Comedy Series. Julianne Moore was triumphant for Outstanding Female Actor in a ‘Game Change’. Kevin Costner was given the trophy of Outstanding Male Actor in ‘Hatfields and McCoys’.

Rest of the winners for Screen Actor Guild Awards 2013 for TV included Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Claire Danes (Homeland), Downton Abbey (Breaking Bad), ‘Skyfall’ (Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture) and ‘Game of Thrones’ for outstanding action performance by a stunt ensemble in a television series).
