The 61st National Film Awards (India)

The annual National Film Awards in India are the most honorable and prestigious awards in India. It honors the exceptional performances in all the languages and regions of the country.  The ceremony of the 61st National Film Awards was held on 3rd May 2014 in New Delhi and was hosted by the singer and actress Raajeshwari Sachdev and  news anchor Rini Simon Khanna.  In the feature film category forty awards were given while three awards were given for best writing category.  Poet Gulzar received the Dada Saheb Palkhe Award in recognition for his services to Hindi cinema.

ARY Digital Awards

A new addition on the scene of film awards is the Pakistani ARY Digital Film Awards. The ceremony was held in Karachi and was hosted by the actor Shan.  Awards were given out in thirty three categories covering films, technical achievements and actors and actresses.

The Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards (FAMAS AWARDS)

The FAMAS Awards are the most distinguished awards in Philippines and are also one of the oldest awards in Asia. Although since the introduction of Luna Awards from 1982, FAMAS has taken a secondary position but it is still an honor for any actor and filmmaker to receive a FAMAS Award.

 

Foreign Film Awards

Swedish Film Industry rewards the contributions of its talented actors, actresses and film makers by awarding them the Guldbagge Award. These awards were founded in 1964 and initially were awarded in only three categories but now after fifty years are presented in nineteen different categories. The colorful Guldbagge Awards ceremony to honor the Swedish Cinema was held in Stockholm on 20th January 2014.

Founded in 1976, the Cesar Film Awards celebrate the French cinema. It is the most honorable awards in France and is considered to be the French equivalent of Oscars.  The Cesar Award enjoys the support of the Ministry of Culture.  The award is offered in twenty one different categories and the nominees are chosen by a panel of filmmakers. This year the 39th Cesar Award Ceremony took place on 28th February 2014.

The glittering ceremony of 64th Golden Bear Awards took place in Berlin earlier this year. The Golden Bear Awards are given to honor the best international films and the jury comprises of a number of notable film personalities from across the world. This year the Beast Film Award (2013) went to the Black Coal, Thin Ice from China.

The Gopo Awards are the most prestigious film awards of Romania and are presented by the Association for Romanian Film Promotion. They are dubbed as the Academy Awards (Oscars) of Romania and were established in 2007. Awards are presented in nineteen categories including the Best European Film.
