The 71st Golden Globe Awards

Tina Fey and Amy Koehler  hosted the star –studded  71st Golden Globe Awards ceremony held at the Beverly Hilton.  Golden Globe Awards are one of the prestigious awards in the international film and television world and are awarded in twenty five categories (14 for films and 11 for TV). The winners of the Golden Globe Awards are selected by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA); a body of international journalists.  The Golden Globe Awards were actually founded during the World War II somewhere in the 1940s by few Los Angeles based “overseas journalists” who used Hollywood productions to bring the international community closer. The HFPA now comprises of ninety members from fifty five countries. The Golden Globe Awards enjoys a wide viewership and is the third most watched award ceremony on the TV. Best Supporting Actor (Drama or Musical/Comedy):  Jared Leto: Dallas Buyers Club

The 89th Academy Awards

Academy Awards better known as Oscars are truly one of the most glamorous and eagerly awaited award ceremonies of the world. From predictions to nominations to the red carpet events, every move of the Academy Awards is closely followed by fans from all over the world.  The 89th Academy Awards ceremony was held on 2nd March 2014 and was hosted by the multitalented Ellen DeGeneres; comedian, actress, writer, producer and talk show host.  Hosting Oscars is not new to Ms. DeGeneres who had earlier hosted the 79th Academy Awards show in 2007.  Through her wit, humor and incredible energy, Ms. DeGeneres kept the show moving and the audience entertained.

Oscars were given out in twenty four categories with films American Hustle and Gravity stealing the show with ten nominations each. The Best Picture Award was won by the film 12 Years a Slave while Alfonso Curano won the Best Director Award for the film Gravity. Cate Blanchett  (Blue Jasmine) and Matthew McConaughey  were presented with the Best Actress and Best Actor Awards.  The winner of the Best Supporting Actor was Jared Leto for Dallas Buyers Club while the Best Supporting Actress was the Lupita Noyongo. Frozen was the Best Animated Feature film.
