Edward Allen Harris popularly known as Ed Harris is an American actor, director and writer. He was born on 28th November, 1950 in New Jersey, United States of America. He gained popularity for a number of great performances in various famous Hollywood movies like Appaloosa, The Abyss , The Rock, A Beautiful Mind and Apollo 13. Ed Harris has received one Academy Award and three Academy Award nominations in his career.

Early Career

Popular Hollywood actor Ed Harris first significant role came in the movie titled Borderline co-starring Charles Bronson. In 1981, he appeared in Knightriders playing the king of a motorbikes-riding troupe. In 1983, the role of John Glenn the astronaut, earned him popularity. He earned world wide fame and praise for playing John Glenn, the astronaut in the movie titled The Right Stuff. After a break of 12 years, he earned her maiden Academy Award for his outstanding performance in Apollo 13.

He has appeared in a number of successful movies including A History of Violence in 20005, along with Casey Affleck, Gone, Baby, Gone and National Treasure: Book of Secrets co-starring Nicolas Cage, in 2007.

Career Highlights

Ed Harris has earned three Oscar nominations in 1999, 2001 and 2003 for his outstanding performances in The Truman Show, The Hours and Pollock. He won Screen Actors Guild Award in the category for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Roll as well as Southeastern Film Critics Association Award in the Best Supporting Actor category. For Truman Show, he achieved Golden Globe, National Board of Review Award and Southeastern Film Critics Association Award for Best Supporting Actor.
